Maieutic Therapiea: Healing Previous Births

with Dr G.A. Lahood

Shakespeare wrote that our flesh is heir to heartache and a 'thousand natural shocks' — none more shocking than the wounds of childbirth. In our emotionally restrictive culture more and more women speak of feeling incomplete or unfulfilled around child birth. Yet the needs of birth-givers can be seen as self-indulgent, and are quickly invalidated or even ridiculed. Dr LaHood believes that birth giving is overlooked as an area of heartache, trauma and transformation, and that underlying many attempts to achieve psycho/spiritual health is an untreated trauma related to birth. Emotionally charged pockets of experience are left behind with the pressures of parenthood and our society's failure to recognize these wounds.

Dr Lahood has conducted pioneering research into the psychology of childbirth and he gives lectures and workshops internationally. He has developed a birth-centered transpersonal psychology and has extensive training in humanistic, creative and transpersonal therapies. Dr LaHood will speak on birth trauma ranging widely from evolution, childbirth shamanism, the ritual harm of technocratic birthing and the ritual healing of maieutic (ma-yoo-tik) therapiea – an ancient Greek word pertaining to mothers, midwifery and soul healing. This workshop is only for women concerned with healing their own previous births, women who feel incomplete from their birth-giving, or women who have suffered loss and grief through miscarriage and abortion. Please come prepared to participate and co-create a healing ritual.

This workshop is suitable from all women wishing to process a previous birth experience.

This is a 3 hour workshop and begins at 2pm. Numbers are limited for this workshop and you must book your place prior to the festival by phoning 66849313 once you have purchased your ticket.
